Festival of Hope

The Weirdest Wedding Recession of the UNESCO Word Heritage
The Festival of Hope is an evernt held in year in appreciation of the end of winter.Traditionally in the end of February the bachelors of the village organize themselves into a fake wedding procession so as to make up an excuse to tour the village's homes where single girls live.Amidts of music, clicking and other noises of the crowd, the men ask for entry in the doorsteps of the houses and upon being granted entry, they cover the faces of the single girls' and their female relatives with soot.In local folk culture, soot is thought to have a clarifying effect. It frees from malicious spirits and diseases and helps to bring about the manifestation of a better year.
I applied as a photographer to document the events of the celebration. The images got a reception of approval and they are currently serving the gallery of the Organization of the Hopeful of Novaj. I submitted the series to the famous photo competition Magyarország 365 (Hungary 365), and from the more than 17 thousand submissions, it was selected to be included in the official catalog of the competition.

Narrative in Photography is a topic as disputed as the true location of Attilla's Tomb. I don't consider it a tool for forming a narrative, rather a symbol that reminds of one. 'Telling a story' is not the job of the still image medium. It is rather providing clues to one, giving a viewer a chance to find it out for his/herself. It makes stories real and remembered. A good image or series flatters in an instant, and it gives the reader of the newspaper that emotionally elevated state which is the basis of recording memories and making them stick.
